Serenity

The dvd of Serenity comes out tomorrow. I saw it at the cinema (one of the few!) and couldn't help but feel that it was so much better than the embarrasingly bad star wars prequels. I loved the original Star Wars trilogy but the new ones lacked any of the charisma we had seen previously, not too mention characters you could actually care about. Some of the dialogue was laughingly poor- The chat up lines in 'clones' springing instantly to mind ('I hate sand. It gets in to your sandwiches on picnics... Not like you.' Good god, man. Not even my chat up lines were ever that bad.)
Back to my point though, I loved Serenity. A spaceship that looked like it had done a bit of mileage, a crew with distinct personalities, some impressive space scenes and action you could watch without it all becoming a blurry mess. On the down side of course I had already seen Firefly (the tv show Serenity came from) so I was gutted when I found out one of my favourite characters d... well, lets just say they wouldn't be staying around for the end credits. But my reaction to that characters fate only demonstrates (to me anyway) how well drawn those characters were, that I was willing to invest something in to them, something far too rare in films these days.
Anyway, that's it for now. I have gone on to the internet and bitched about movies and as we all know that is what the internet is there for. My work here is done.

There should be more films with pirates in. Think how much better those star wars prequels could have been.
Steve the Pirate- "At last! I've found me treasure! It was here all along!"
Obi-Wan- "This is not the treasure you are looking for..."

Excellent! I just looked up 'Space Pirates' on imdb. They stole my idea 12 years before I even thought of it.

That's how sneaky they are.
